Using Home Assets on Mobile
Important: This is an early-release feature and is subject to change. You are free to use it now and provide your feedback to Home Watch IT, but there may still be small hidden bugs in the product. Once it is considered stable and “General Release,” this message will be removed.
See Introduction to Home Assets first if you haven’t already.
Finding Assets on a property
Section titled “Finding Assets on a property”- Open the property in CI25 Mobile the same way you would to start a report.
- Tap the Assets button.
- You’ll see a compact, photo-based list of everything already recorded for that property, with Search, a filter icon (Category / Location / Status), a Scan icon, and a + to add a new one.
Tap any Asset in the list to open it.
Scanning
Section titled “Scanning”Tap the Scan icon and point the camera at a barcode or QR code — either the Asset’s own HWIT QR label (if you’ve printed one from the desktop app) or a manufacturer barcode already on the item.
What happens next depends on what’s scanned:
| Result | What you’ll see |
|---|---|
| One match found | The Asset opens immediately. |
| Several Assets share that code | A short list to pick from (this happens with ordinary manufacturer barcodes — two identical appliances can share the same code). |
| No match found | A Not Found message with the option to Add New Asset (with the scanned code already attached) or Scan Again. |
Adding an Asset
Section titled “Adding an Asset”This is built for walking through a property and logging several items quickly, one after another.
- From the Assets list, tap + (or Add New Asset after an unrecognized scan).
- The Property is already set and shown at the top.
- Tap to take a photo — it appears right away, even offline.
- Tap Scan Barcode / QR if the item has a code you want attached to it.
- Type the Asset Name.
- Pick a Category and Location — if the one you need isn’t listed yet, just type it and choose Add ”…” right there.
- Optionally expand More Details for Manufacturer, Model, Serial Number, Description, Purchase/Install dates, Purchase Price, Replacement Cost, Warranty dates, Warranty Notes, and general Notes.
- Tap Save & Add Another to keep the same property and immediately start the next Asset (there’s a Keep Location for next Asset checkbox if you’re doing several items in the same room — Category is never carried forward, since that usually changes item to item), or Save & Done when you’re finished.
Only the Asset’s name is ever required — everything else can be filled in now, later, or not at all.
AI-assisted identification
Section titled “AI-assisted identification”After taking a photo, an Identify Asset button appears. This is entirely optional, and never required to save an Asset.
- Tap Identify Asset.
- You’ll be asked whether you want to add a close-up photo of the equipment’s label/data plate first. Doing this significantly improves accuracy for the model and serial number, since the main photo of the equipment often doesn’t show the label clearly enough to read. You can skip this and use the main photo alone.
- After a few seconds, you’ll see suggested values — Name, Category, Manufacturer, Model, Serial Number, Description.
- Review them and tap Use These to fill them into the form, or Discard to ignore them. Nothing is ever saved automatically — you always see the suggestions first and can edit anything before saving the Asset.
AI identification needs an internet connection. If you’re offline, the button will let you know identification isn’t available right now — everything else about adding the Asset works exactly the same, and you can try identification again later.
The Asset Detail screen
Section titled “The Asset Detail screen”Tapping an Asset from the list opens one scrolling screen with everything about it:
- Photo and identity — manufacturer/model, status, category, and location, with an Edit button to change any of these.
- Notes — a general notes field with its own Save.
- Photos — add more any time; the first photo you ever take becomes the main photo automatically. Reassigning the main photo among several existing photos needs a connection.
- Purchase & Warranty — a read-only summary of what’s on file; edit it via the Edit button.
- Maintenance — a read-only summary of what’s set up for this Asset (Maintenance itself is configured on the desktop app).
- Open Issues — add a new Issue linked to this Asset, or tap an existing one to open it, the same as anywhere else in Home Watch IT.
- Preferred Vendor — shown with a tap-to-call button if a phone number is on file.
- Recent History, with View All — combines manual service entries with any linked Reports, Tasks, and Issues.
- Documents — needs a connection to view or add.
- Identifiers — shows the Asset’s HWIT QR code and any other identifiers, with the option to add another by scanning.
What your technicians can and can’t do
Section titled “What your technicians can and can’t do”Your normal technician role (Auditor Only) can do everything day-to-day: browse, scan, add and edit Assets, add and manage photos, add manufacturer identifiers, log manual service history, add a missing Category or Location on the fly, and archive an Asset.
What stays Admin/Full Access only, on the desktop app:
- Renaming or archiving an existing Category or Location
- Setting up Maintenance definitions and creating schedules from them
- Regenerating an Asset’s QR code
- Moving an Asset to a different property
- Permanently deleting anything (normal use only ever archives)
View Only users can browse and scan, but can’t make any changes.
Working offline
Section titled “Working offline”Almost everything works without a signal:
- Browsing, searching, and filtering your synced Assets
- Scanning (both finding an existing Asset and recognizing an unknown code)
- Adding and editing Assets, including all fields
- Taking photos — they appear immediately and upload automatically once you’re back in range
- Adding manual service history
The two things that need a connection are AI identification and Documents. Both will tell you plainly when they’re unavailable rather than failing silently, and neither one blocks you from finishing anything else.
Frequently asked questions
Section titled “Frequently asked questions”How do I add an Asset from my phone or tablet?
Section titled “How do I add an Asset from my phone or tablet?”Open the property, tap Assets, then +. See Adding an Asset above — only a name is required.
How does scanning work?
Section titled “How does scanning work?”Tap the Scan icon on the Assets list and point the camera at a barcode or QR code. It checks your device’s own synced data, so it works without a signal. See Scanning above for what happens with each possible result.
What happens if I scan a code that isn’t in the system yet?
Section titled “What happens if I scan a code that isn’t in the system yet?”You’ll see a Not Found message with the choice to add a new Asset (with that code already attached) or scan again — nothing is created automatically just from scanning.
How does the AI identification feature work?
Section titled “How does the AI identification feature work?”Tap Identify Asset after taking a photo. It can optionally use a second close-up photo of the data plate/label for better accuracy, and always shows you suggestions to review and accept — or ignore — before anything changes. It needs an internet connection.
Does Home Assets work offline?
Section titled “Does Home Assets work offline?”Yes, almost entirely — browsing, scanning, adding, editing, and photos all work offline. Only AI identification and Documents need a connection. See Working offline above.
What can my technicians do vs. what’s Admin-only?
Section titled “What can my technicians do vs. what’s Admin-only?”Your technicians (Auditor Only) can do all the everyday work in the field, including adding a missing Category or Location. Renaming/archiving lists, Maintenance setup, QR regeneration, and moving an Asset between properties stay Admin/Full Access on the desktop app. See What your technicians can and can’t do above for the full breakdown.
I accidentally added a duplicate or wrong Asset — how do I get rid of it?
Section titled “I accidentally added a duplicate or wrong Asset — how do I get rid of it?”Open it and archive it from its Detail screen. There’s no delete on mobile (or in normal desktop use) — archiving removes it from your everyday list while keeping the record, in case you need it later.
Can I print a QR label from my phone?
Section titled “Can I print a QR label from my phone?”Not currently — QR label printing is on the desktop app. See Using Home Assets on a Computer.
