Introduction to Home Assets
Important: This is an early-release feature and is subject to change. You are free to use it now and provide your feedback to Home Watch IT, but there may still be small hidden bugs in the product. Once it is considered stable and “General Release,” this message will be removed.
What this is for
Section titled “What this is for”Every property you service has equipment in it — an HVAC system, a water heater, a pool pump, major appliances, a generator, a TV, sometimes even furniture or artwork. Home Assets is a place to keep a record of each one: what it is, where it is in the home, a photo of it, its manufacturer/model/serial number, when it was installed, its warranty dates, and everything that has happened to it since — service visits, issues raised, and notes.
Most companies use it as a Home Inventory — a running record of what’s in a property, useful for insurance, for handing off to a new technician, or for knowing at a glance what you’re dealing with before a visit. That’s the most common use, but “Home Assets” is the feature name because it can hold anything worth tracking, not just what most people picture when they hear “inventory.”
Where it works
Section titled “Where it works”Home Assets is available in two places, and they show the same data:
- The desktop app, for full management — adding Assets, setting up Categories and Locations, editing every detail, printing QR labels, and setting up Maintenance.
- CI25 Mobile, built for technicians walking through a property — scanning a barcode or QR code to instantly pull up an Asset, adding new ones quickly with a photo, and using AI to help identify equipment from a photo.
See Using Home Assets on a Computer and Using Home Assets on Mobile for step-by-step instructions for each.
What you can keep track of
Section titled “What you can keep track of”For each Asset, Home Assets can hold:
| Identity | Name, category, location in the home, manufacturer, model, serial number, description |
| Photos | One primary photo plus as many additional photos as you like |
| Purchase & Warranty | Purchase date, install date, purchase price, replacement cost, warranty start/end, warranty notes |
| Documents | Manuals, receipts, warranty PDFs — anything you’d normally attach as a file |
| Identifiers | A unique HWIT QR code (for scanning) plus any manufacturer barcodes or QR codes already on the item |
| Maintenance | What should happen to it and how often, with a button to turn that into a real schedule |
| History | A single timeline combining manual service entries with any Reports, Tasks, and Issues already linked to it |
| Preferred Vendor | Which vendor from your Vendor list normally services this item |
You don’t have to fill in everything. The only thing required to create an Asset is a name — everything else can be added later, or never, depending on how much detail is useful to you.
Frequently asked questions
Section titled “Frequently asked questions”What is the difference between Home Assets and Home Inventory?
Section titled “What is the difference between Home Assets and Home Inventory?”None — they’re the same feature. “Home Inventory” describes the most common way companies use it (a running list of what’s in a property); “Home Assets” is simply the name of the feature that does it.
Do I need to turn something on to use Home Assets?
Section titled “Do I need to turn something on to use Home Assets?”Yes — Advanced Scheduling needs to be on for your company. If it already is, there’s nothing else to turn on. If it isn’t, an Admin will see a one-time prompt to enable it the first time Home Assets is opened.
Can my customers see the Assets I add?
Section titled “Can my customers see the Assets I add?”Not yet. Home Assets is designed to support that in the future, but customer-facing visibility isn’t part of this release.
Is Home Assets available on mobile?
Section titled “Is Home Assets available on mobile?”Yes — see Using Home Assets on Mobile. Mobile includes offline scanning, rapid Asset creation for field inventory work, and optional AI-assisted photo identification.
Who can use Home Assets in the field?
Section titled “Who can use Home Assets in the field?”Any of your CI25 Mobile users can browse and scan. Adding, editing, and archiving Assets is available to your normal technician role (Auditor Only) as well as Admin/Full Access — see Using Home Assets on Mobile for the exact breakdown.
Can I delete an Asset by mistake and lose everything?
Section titled “Can I delete an Asset by mistake and lose everything?”There’s no “delete” button in normal use — removing an Asset archives it instead, which hides it from your everyday list but keeps its full history. An Admin can find and restore an archived Asset on the desktop app.
